  2. Born: June 8, 1810 • He was born into a devoted family based in Zwickau. • He began piano lessons at seven, and studied Latin and Greek in school in Zwickau, he then began playing piano and writing novels. • When he was 16 his father died and in the same month his sister committed suicide.

  3. Robert composed about 140 songs in 1840 • He married Clara Wieck in September 1840. • They had 7 children all together.

  4. Robert took his first lessons from Freidrich Wieck • He became acquainted with another Dresden resident Richard Wagner, who inspired Schumann to compose an opera himself. • Then later began working with Johannes Brahms. Freidrich Wieck Richard Wagner

In the spring of 1841, Clara became addicted to the pleasure of concert- giving. • He soon was given a teaching role in 1843, but was soon so depressed he was unable to even communicate with his students. • He soon resigned his post in 1844. • He was still composing and in 1843 his work “ Das Parodies und die Peri was premiered.

  7. In 1844 there was more problems with Robert. • He experienced physical distress, which caused temporarily blindness. • He became even more depressed that often he couldnt even have a conversation. • Soon he was even to weak to walk, couldn’t sleep, had hallucinations • Tried committing suicide • Died: July 29, 1856 • After being fed wine and gelee by Clara
