  4. Need for a Web-based student information system (on-line registration) • What this means to NCATE:Students will be better able to select courses that are appropriate to meet their program requirements

  5. Need to provide students with extended hours of access to their information from anywhere • What this means to NCATE:Teacher Education students will be empowered to get access to their information at their own convenience

  6. Need to enhance campus access to student information • What this means to NCATE:Needs for the kind of reporting that NCATE requires will be available to department chairs, deans, the A.V.P. of Teacher Education; Examples are provided on the site for NCATE visitors

  15. SABRE Project Activities 1999-2000 – Start-up: the SABRE Team communicated with campus community to seek advice and input on the student information system.

  16. Activities (continued) 2000-2001 - The SABRE team tested Oracle’s early releases of the new software, while developing methods and identifying technical and training support needed to implement the new software.

  17. Activities (continued) 2001-2004 - The new software will be installed and tested. A preliminary version will be tested, and a more advanced version will be implemented. SABRE team will make sure the system functions effectively and that members of the campus community have been trained.

  19. The Road Traveled (continued) • Campus Communications – Participation is required from all stakeholders to ensure a successful software implementation. Effective two-way exchange of information with the campus is vital.

Milestones (continued) • Future Process Model - RD.040 – Describes how Buffalo State plans to conduct business in the future • Technical Architecture Documentation (TA.050) describes the existing application and technical architecture of the components at Buffalo State College within the scope of the SABRE project

  23. Overview of SABRE Team’s Communication Activities • Held Campus-wide Update sessions in Fall 1999, Spring 2000, Fall 2000, and Spring 2001, Fall 2001, January 2002, Spring 2002 • Conducted 28 Informational-gathering sessions • Initiated 4 Best Practices Topics

  24. Communication (continued) • Facilitated 33 Cross-functional sessions • Conducted 9 Training Focus Groups • Conducted 12 Campus Investigations regarding concerns relevant to SABRE’s success

  28. Implementation Training • Learning set-up procedures for Undergraduate & Graduate Admissions, Registration and Student Finances • Entering Buffalo State data into the system

  29. Gap Fit The SABRE team is working on “Gap/Fit” during 2001-2002. This is a process to identify the differences between Buffalo State’s operational requirements and Oracle software’s capabilities.

  30. Gap Fit (continued) After differences or “gaps” have been identified, resolution options are determined.

  31. Completed Work - Campus Community Phase 1 Certification Training March 2001 - August 2001

  32. Phase 1 Certification Training • Consisted of on-campus courses in Word, Excel, Windows, Outlook and Browser taught by: • Internal Campus Trainers - Faculty/Staff Technology Development Center (FAST) (continuing) • External Campus Trainers - IKON (IKON training ended in August 2001)

  33. Phase 1 Certification Training • Buffalo State course in Change Management was taught by: • Human Resource Management

  34. Future Campus Training • Phase 2 Certification Training on the New Student Information System Will be instituted just prior to actual implementation of the new system

  35. Phase 2 Certification Training Specific training on the navigation and functionality of the student information system.

  36. Phase 2 Certification Training Required for all faculty, staff and students who will use the new student information system.

  37. Phase 2 Certification Training Delivered “just in time” after software release and prior to implementation.
