  9. VIEW FROM HERE (BBCC) • We get three groups of students: • Dual enrolled (Running Start) • High School Graduates (Recent and not so Recent) • No high school credentials

  10. VIEW FROM HERE (BBCC) • They are all your products! • Your products have a long shelf life! • CWU ave. age = 20 yrs. • BBCC ave. age = 29 yrs.

  11. VIEW FROM HERE (BBCC) • 96% Place in developmental Mathematics • 60% Place in developmental English • Little or no skills at public speaking

  12. VIEW FROM HERE (BBCC) • Feedback from our own students: • High school students are on “autopilot” • High school students expect everything to be done for them. • High school students aren’t expected to solve problems on their own.

  13. VIEW FROM HERE (BBCC) • High school students are bright, energetic, lack self confidence, and have short attention spans. • High school students learn very quickly

  14. COLLEGE READY ? OR WHAT? • Teach ACTIVE collaboration • Teach individual accountability • Teach adjustment to change.

  15. COLLEGE READY? OR WHAT? • Education is not “SEAMLESS” • Life is not “SEAMLESS” • Change is messy.

  16. COLLEGE READY? OR WHAT? • Continue skill and achievement emphasis. • Reward teamwork AND individual accomplishment. • Prepare students for change. • PREPARE STUDENTS FOR LIFELONG LEARNING
