  1. Background/Overview of process • President re-organised Cabinet and National Departments; • Creation of two new portfolios, viz; Energy and Mineral Resources and the abolishment of Minerals and Energy Department; • Strategic Planning sessions for both Departments were held; • Both Departments’ mandates, key strategic objectives, goals and components are redefined and re-aligned; • A process approach was adopted in re-organising the departmental functions and re-aligning the organisational structures to the new mandates; • Both Ministers have approved the reviewed/re-aligned organisational structures; • Awaiting letters of concurrence on the structures from MPSA;

  2. Background/Overview of process Change Management workshops/interventions were conducted to prepare staff for change; Briefing sessions on the financial position in relation to the funding of the new structure were also held; In view of the current financial constraints, a decision was taken to implement the approved organisational structure of the Dept of Energy in phases; This implies that Energy line function components as delineated from the Old DME structure would operate as they are for the interim( i.e. until such time that funding is made available); and The main focus is the establishment of the Support Services components, viz; Corporate Services Branch; Office of the CFO; Strategy, Risk and Monitoring Chief Directorate; Audit Services as well as Ministerial and Parliamentary Services & Office of the DG.
