  2. “People Staring at Computers” • 25-year-old New York hacker-artist Kyle McDonald works with sounds and codes, exploring translation, contextualization, and similarity • Just recently he caused a huge sensation when he revealed that his latest art project involved installing a form of custom spyware on computers in two Apple stores in New York, automatically sending him images of people peering into the screens that he later posted on a Tumblr blog titled, “People Staring at Computers” • McDonald discovered Apple had been monitoring his unauthorized art project when he received a picture that “appeared” to be an Apple technician installing the spyware himself and shortly after he received a visit from the U.S. Secret Service • McDonald is being investigated for violating U.S. Code Title 18/1030 and could possibly face up to 20 years in prison • Kyle McDonald’s intentions were for people to become more aware of their relationship with technology. “I thought if maybe we could see ourselves doing this we would think more about our computers and how we’re using them.”
