  1. Proton Improvement PlanBill PellicoMarch 4th, 2013All-Experimenters Meeting Bill Pellico AEM

  2. Current Work Summary • Injector, Linac and Booster – • Beam Studies • Tune-up • Studies • RFQ – Linac Matching • Booster Aperture Scans • Booster Magnet Moves • Booster Shielding Scans • Booster Solid State RF tune-up • Booster Absorber commissioned • Most installations for this shutdown are complete: • Booster Transformer (April?) • One or Two more refurbishment cavities • Maybe Linac Transformer • RFQ Trim Package • Much work to go: • RFQ/Linac current - losses • Loss minimization • Booster Magnet Moves • Booster lattice studies/corrections Bill Pellico AEM

  3. RFQ Injector/Linac Status • RFQ Largely in operations mode – But… • Still adjusting new sources – spark rates and emittances have improved • Second Source – with new hardware design will be tested (March) • NTF patient treatment back to normal operations • Linac Commissioning continues – Linac losses still too high for given current • Efficiency Improving: Up to 90% (current still lower than desired) • New Instrumentation (BPM, Toroid) hardware just about finished • Preparing for Linac transformer install – need to fit into studies and NTF schedule! Bill Pellico AEM

  4. Booster Solid State Upgrade • Will be completed during shutdown – Plan is end of March • Major benefits to reliability and the cost of operation Booster Cavity Work Refurbished (15Hz) SS Prototype SS Upgraded Cavity Removed Bill Pellico AEM

  5. Solid State PA Booster Notch Beam Absorber Booster Aperture Scan Booster Solid State RF Station Bill Pellico AEM

  6. Near Term Plans • RFQ injector – Will be adding a new trim package (improve transmission) • Installing Booster Utility Transformers • Installing Linac Roof access • Booster Magnet Moves continue • Booster Cogging studies • Booster Lattice Studies • Booster Cavity Refurbishment • Adding last beam “notcher” kicker magnet system • Operations: • Higher Intensity Tune-up • Address shielding assessment issues to allow for higher flux Bill Pellico AEM
