Bias

Bias. Automatically leaning towards one side of a decision based on a prejudice, foreknowledge, or past experience. Conclusion. An opinion or decision that is formed after an experiment, based on experimental data. Control Group. A group in an experiment that has nothing done to it.

  1. Bias • Automatically leaning towards one side of a decision based on a prejudice, foreknowledge, or past experience.

  2. Conclusion • An opinion or decision that is formed after an experiment, based on experimental data.

  3. Control Group • A group in an experiment that has nothing done to it

  4. Controlled Variables • Variables that could change, but are not allowed to; also called constants. Factors that stays the same through all phases of an experiment. (also called controls.)

  5. Data • Information gathered during an experiment.

  6. Density • The amount of something in a particular space or area; the amount of matter in something that is shown by the relationship between its weight and size.

  7. Dependent Variable • In an experimental investigation, what is observed and measured.

  8. Experiment • Test under controlled conditions that is made to demonstrate a known truth, or examine the validity of a hypothesis.

  9. Experimental Error • Mistakes or laws in the experiment due to human inaccuracies.

  10. Hypothesis • Tentative explanation that accounts for a set of facts and can be tested by further investigation. Suggested solution to a problem.

  11. Independent Variable • The variable that is changed or tested by the scientist; the thing that is different between experimental groups.

  12. Inference • Drawing a conclusion based on data and observation.

  13. Mass • Amount of matter in something; measured in grams.
