  1. PEOPLE CENTRED DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME (PCDP)

  2. People CentredDevelopment Programme What is it? Catalyst to accelerate the MDGs and improve human development in the Papua and West Papua provinces. Why is it Important? • Papua and West Papua provinces are falling behind in the Human Development Index • Poverty level is three times higher than the national level

  3. How it Works Support the government in evidence-based planning, budgeting and monitoring to advance human development and accelerate progress in lagging MDGs Extend service delivery of critical public services, i.e. health and education to remote areas Facilitate policy making for better market access for the poor and vulnerable. Strengthen the capacity of key economic actors

  4. Key Results: • Over 30,000 Papuans in remote and isolated locations provided with access to basic health, education and micro-credit services. • Increase in government budget for education and health in Papua and West Papua. Increase from 2 percent (in 2006) to 15 percent (by the end of 2010).

  5. Next Steps • Sustain and expand the health and education services coverage by securing government budget allocations. • Collaborate with local banks to provide long-term access to micro-credit financing • Support the implementation of Action plans to accelerate the MDGs in Papua and Tanah Papua provinces
