  1. Negative thermal expansion OF ZEOLITES project BY SINEAD, ILARIA, ISSY, DAVE AND SID

  2. What are Zeolites ? • Zeolites are microporous crystalline solids with well-defined structures.

  3. Zeolites that we looked at SBE RHO MRE

  4. Do SBE, MRE and RHO show negative thermal expansion?

  5. Generally, materials expand when heated because the particles gain kinetic energy and so vibrate more. • Some of theses zeolites decrease in volume when heated.

  6. How we did it • We collected data about the zeolite structures • All the operations were done on the Linux operating system • The number of SI and O atoms were entered, and we changed certain variables to run the test. • The data was then analysed.

  7. SBE

  8. MRE

  9. “Zeolite RHO has an unusual three dimensional monolayer surface with a topology that gives equal access to either side of the surface.”

  10. Conclusions SBE RHO MRE

  11. THE END!!   
