  1. Listening and Communication Enhancement

  2. What is ?

  3. Is an interactive, adaptive auditory training program designed to be used either in clinic or at home, with computer or DVD player

  4. Why was developed?

  5. We hear with our ears… but we listen with our brain.

  6. Historically, auditory rehabilitation programs could be time consuming • Client participation could only be assumed and not easily monitored • Levels of improvement could be difficult to support and measure

  7. Listening and Communication Enhancement • LACE enhances cognitive and listening skills • LACE addresses the five most common client listening issues: » Speech Intelligibility in noise • Mental speed of processing • Auditory working memory » Communication Strategies » Hearing Aid Acclimatisation

  8. 3 Min. Patient Orientation

  9. LACE Patient Benefits • Teaches that listening is not the same as hearing • Demonstrates that not every word needs to be heard to get the message • Helps patient adjust to amplification

  10. LACE Patient Benefits • Build patient confidence that they actually heard and understood what was said • Provides hearing aid acclimatization, communication and compensatory strategies • Improves cognitive skills (speed of processing and auditory memory) to help speech understanding in difficult listening environments

  11. Client Training Schedule • 30 min per day • 5 days per week • Total: 20 sessions (Approx 10 hrs aural rehab) • DVD version – 5 hrs • Small gaps (1-2 days) in training schedule tolerable to positive outcome…not so with larger gaps.

  12. LACE Delivery Options LACE 4 CE (Clinic Edition) Clinic-based Training LACE 4 HE (Home Edition) Home-based Training New LACE 4 registration mobility feature allows patient to seamlessly transition from clinic to home-based program +

  13. LACE CE Designed for in-clinic use, LACE CE (Clinic Edition) provides a platform enabling LACE auditory training to be done in an office setting. Ideal for situations where the patient lacks a PC, LACE CE offers the additional advantage of involving all patients in a “hearing lab” experience for some or all LACE training sessions

  14. LACE 4 HE (Home Edition) CD-ROM + DVD The home computer version is designed for use on the patient’s home computer (PC or Mac). Once installed, patient training scores are uploaded to your Neurotone Pro account enabling you to monitor training progress. The DVD version is designed for patients who do not have access to a home computer, but do have a DVD player and a television. LACE HE is a great solution for offering LACE training when lack of office space prevents use of CE, or any patient situations where home-based training is preferred.

  15. Neurotone Pro • Fully secure, HIPAA compliant, account • Create Patient Records • Review Results Session by Session • Use Automated Email System to maintain patient compliance • Accessing Professional Resources • Access to the latest research and news

  22. LACE Clinical Results • Average QuickSIN improvements: • Average baseline of 12.02dB established on session 1 • 1.62 dB improvement after only 6 sessions • 3.33 dB after 11 sessions (82% of the 20-session gain) • 4.06 dB after 16 sessions • 4.37 dB improvement after 20 sessions • LACE patients typically experience 40%+ improvement in listening skills • 1 dB typically equates to a 10% improvement in understanding speech in noise

  23. LACE Professional Benefits • Induces a fundamental change in the relationship between the patient and the professional: the patient moves from a passive to active role in their treatment process • Reduces Returns – Patients engaged with LACE therapy have significantly lower return rate • Increases patient satisfaction resulting in more referrals • Providing aural rehab services demonstrates a commitment to the patient’s overall quality of life beyond the capabilities of hearing instruments alone…a powerful competitive advantage • Provide the patient with helpful strategies to cope with real-world communication challenges

  24. Success So Far • Launched in August 2005 • Over 60,000 units sold in the US(end of 2010) • Over 1200 hearing care professionals in the US regularly prescribe LACE • US Studies show average return rates drop from 15-20% to between 3-5%
