EMERGENCE OF NEW DELHI HISTORICAL BACKGROUND OF DELHI • Since 1000 years Delhi has been the capital city of India. • About 14 capitals were established within sixty squire miles at the left bank of Yamuna in different period of time. • Among all 14 capitals “SHAHJAHANABAD” was one of the most important capital city established during 12th century to 17th century .

CONSTRUCTION OF NEW DELHI • The NEW DELHI begin to construct since 1911 AD. when DELHI became the capital of British India. • In the construction of new Delhi many forts gardens palaces of Mugal period destroyed by the British. e.g.:-the palaces ,mosque, canals, gardens associated with the RED-FORT(LAL –KILA).

  6. THE PLANING OF NEW CAPITAL At the court of George fifth (king of England) had announced to construct the new capital at Delhi in 1911.

THE PLANING OF NEW CAPITAL • The New DELHI had constructed in south of the contemporary city at Raisina hill in about 10 square miles area. • Adverd Latyans and Horbart Bekar were the architects of new Delhi. • the important architecture of new Delhi which were constructed during British period are:- Viceroy-palace (Rastrapati bhavan), kings way (Rajpath ),Secretariat(Sachivalay)

  8. Difference between new Delhi and Shahjahanabad (Purani dilli ) • New Delhi has broad and strait road ,big buildings with wide compound whereas Sahjahanabad has crowded mohallah, congested street. • The view of New Delhi is neat and clean whereas the view of Purani-Delhi is busy and dirty.
