P-SATT Goals and Objectives • Mission • To advance pediatric health and well-being through collaboration, communication and education on the discovery and development of therapeutics and technology and their successful translation into practice • Goals • Communication • To improve communication and relationships with AAP members within industry, academia and government agencies to create opportunity for dialogue with the organizations that employ them • Education • To educate AAP membership on the discovery, development, and implementation process for therapeutics and technology • Networking • To create a vibrant member community and network that will add value to AAP members • To serve as a resource and integrate expertise with other Sections, Committees and membership-at-large • Integration • To explore the research and development process and make recommendations that will improve quality, safety, understanding and efficiency

P-SATT Proposed 2011 Activities • Communication • Develop a dialogue with AAP Leadership on potential areas of collaboration between the AAP, industry, academia, and government agencies (e.g., FDA) • Education • Educate AAP members about drug discovery and development, clinical research and regulatory issues involving new therapeutics and technology for children • Section education program at 2011 AAP on advancing pediatric medicine • Educate AAP members about alternative career paths (e.g., industry, government) • Networking • Develop strategies to recruit AAP members from diverse background into the Section, connect them to each other, and engage them in a meaningful way in the work of the section • Develop liaisons with other AAP sections and committees • Integration • Explore ways to improve the process of drug/device research and development and its translation to everyday practice • Explore relationships between AAP, industry, academia and government agencies (e.g., FDA)
