  5. Use a range of connectives in writing. if and because but so when I am excited because we are going on a trip to Lincoln soon! I love going to the seaside butnot when it’s raining. I jump out of bed quickly when my alarm clock goes off! Mrs Towers had a restful holiday and so did Mrs Baxter! Jack and Lewis will get their pocket money this week if they do their jobs! As well as time connectives to order events within a story!

  6. Use speech within a story, including speech punctuation. , ! ? “ ” Spoken words go inside the speech marks. All punctuation goes inside the speech marks. “I don’t want to get out of bed!” moaned Mrs Towers miserably. “Why can’t we have a three day weekend?” questioned Mrs Baxter cheekily. “Let’s work really hard this morning and see if we can have some extra playtime later,” announced Mrs Towers cheerily.

  7. Adjectives – describes the noun. Adverbs – describes how the verb is done – often ends in –ly. Similes – compares one thing to another using ‘as’ or ‘like’. Metaphors – tells you that one thing ‘is’ something else, creating a vivid image.

  8. 5 Mrs Towers gently closed the door behind her and skipped all the way to school, singing a jolly tune. CRASH! The kitchen cupboard slammed shut and Jack glared at Lewis, with his fists clenched tightly. With her head in her hands, Mrs Baxter watched the tears drop, one by one, to the floor below. Describing the thoughts and feelings of a character in a story. We are not allowed to say – he was angry… Which feelings has Mrs Towers described?
