  2. Heb 12.1-4 As for us, we have this large crowd of witnesses round us. So then, let us rid ourselves of everything that gets in the way, and of the sin which holds on to us so tightly, and let us run with determination the race that lies before us. Let us keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, on whom our faith depends from beginning to end. He did not give up because of the cross…

  3. Think of what he went through; how he put up with so much hatred from sinners! So do not let yourselves become discouraged and give up. For in your struggle against sin you have not yet had to resist to the point of being killed.

  4. Mt 10.34-38 Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the world. No, I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. I came to set sons against their fathers, daughters against their mothers, daughters-in-law against their mothers-in-law; your worst enemies will be the members of your own family. v37 Those who love their father or mother more than me are not fit to be my disciples; those who love their son or daughter more than me are not fit to be my disciples. Those who do not take up their cross and follow in my steps are not fit to be my disciples.

  5. Mark 12.28 A teacher of the Law…came to Jesus with a question: “Which commandment is the most important of all?” Jesus replied, “The MOST IMPORTANTONE is this: ‘Listen, Israel! The Lord our God is the only Lord. Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ The second most important commandment is this: ‘Love your neighbour as you love yourself.’ Or your family

  6. 5 reasons why this makes sense! • He has already done the same for us • (put us before his own Son, sacrificed him for us) • God made us in his ‘image’ – to love like him • Our families will be blessed if we put God first. • This will be the key issue on Judgment Day • If we truly love our families, we need to help them to put God first, too – by showing we do. • - even though this will be very painful and divisive at times, for us and for them
