  1. Job Shadow: How-Tofor Senior Project

  2. Step One • Find a person in your field of interest to job shadow. This person: • May NOT be related to you • May NOT work at Lindsay High School • May NOT shadow two Lindsay seniors at once • Tell the person that on the day of the job shadow, you hope to: • Spend 4-6 hours politely following them around, asking questions, to see what it’s like to have their career • Take about ½ hour to interview them about their career to help you make a more informed decision about your own career • Ask them to fill out a short evaluation upon completion of the job shadow day.

  3. Step Two: Prior to Job Shadow • AT LEAST one week before your shadow, tell your LF so you are certain the job shadow is approved. • Get an activity release form from the the front office, and have your LFs sign it to approve your absence from the four periods you will be missing on the day of your job shadow. THIS FORM MUST BE TURNED IN AT LEAST ONE WEEK BEORE THE JOB SHADOW ABSENCE. • Fill out the “Job Shadow Interview Worksheet” and choose your ten questions. You may use the interview questions list for help (available on senior web page) • Print off the “Job Shadow Employer Evaluation” to bring with you on the day of the shadow. Your employer must complete this. • Make sure you have proper attire: you should wear business/interview clothes (NO JEANS or T-SHIRTS!) no matter what field you are shadowing in. • Make sure you’ve set up and verified the day, time, and place you will be meeting with your job shadow. • Make sure you’ve completed everything on the Job Shadow checklist (available on Senior Project site)

  4. Step Three: Day of Job Shadow • Arrive EARLY to your job shadow location • Appear nicely dressed, and be polite • Bring your job shadow interview questions, and your job shadow employer evaluation form • Do as asked, and try to ask questions when appropriate • Find a good time to have the interview with your employer. • At the end of the shadow period, ask the employer to complete the evaluation form. • Thank them, shake their hand, and leave as politely as you came.

  5. Step Four: After Job Shadow • Type up both the interview worksheet and the responses to your ten questions. Save and upload this document under “Job Shadow” on your website (do not cut and paste). • Scan or ask LF to help you scan the Job Shadow Employer Evaluation. Upload this file under “Job Shadow” on your website. • If you have a good camera on your phone, you can take a picture of the document and upload it as a picture file: just make sure it is legible. • Write and type your job shadow reflection narrative according to the guidelines and rubric on the Senior Project website. Save it and upload this document under “Job Shadow” on your website (do not cut and paste).
