    7. Community Health Worker/ Promotoras de Salud Interested in a health career and really want to help people, then Community Health Worker is for you! The Community Health Worker (CHW) would serve as a bridge between people who need healthcare and those who provide it in our area hospitals, clinics and physician offices.

The El Paso Community College Program, one of the first in the state to be approved by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, offers a certificate of completion after one year of theoretical and practical courses.     9. Dental Assisting/Dental Hygiene Dental Assistants provide a variety of services in the dentist’s office, from assisting the dentist at chairside to office manage duties. EPCC has one of the best Dental Assisting programs in the state. We offer a one- year certificate, a two-year associate degree, and enhanced skills certificate for professionals and program graduates.

    10. The Dental Hygienist provides direct patient care including oral examinations, teeth cleaning and taking dental x-rays. Graduates of this two-year program are eligible to be licensed as Registered Dental Hygienist.     11. Diagnostic Medical Sonography EPCC’s 18-month certificate or 2 year Associate of Applied Science Degree in Medical Sonography allows for a successful and lucrative career in health! The Ultrasound Sonographer is able to use high frequency sound waves in neurosonology, and do abdominal, obstetrics, and gynecology ultrasound examinations.

    12. Courses offered at EPCC are: Ultrasound Physics and Instrumentation, Cross Sectional Anatomy and Pathology, Ultrasound case studies, and Administrative Management. Emergency Medical Services If being on the frontline of health care, and making split-second decisions as you transport seriously ill or injured patients to the hospital is appealing to you, this is your program. With combination of classroom, clinical and field experience, three levels of certification and an associates degree are offered.

Health Information Technology As a professional in health information management, you are the expert in information technology, combining your computer skills with your sense of organization and attention to detail. The Health Information expert must accurately record, maintain, collect and analyze health information.

Nursing “Nursing is Caring” “Caring is Nursing” The shortages of health care providers predicted for the future makes the Associate Degree Nursing and Vocational Nursing programs at EPCC two of the most sought after programs at the college. Both programs prepare students with the knowledge and skills to function in the health care community

    18. At the completion of two year Associate Degree Nursing Program, students are prepared to sit for the licensure exam for Registered Nurses. At the completion of the one year Vocational Nursing Program, students are prepared to sit for the licensure exam for Vocational Nursing.

Ophthalmology Technology ”Eyes are the mirrors to your soul” Following written prescription by ophthalmologist or optometrists, the dispensing opticians fit eyeglasses and contact lenses, help customers select appropriate frames, and order the necessary ophthalmic laboratory work. They instruct customers about adapting to and caring for eye glasses.

    22. Pharmacy Technology Program The Pharmacy Technician has major responsibilities in helping people recover from illness or injury. As a vital member of the healthcare team, pharmacy technicians must accurately read prescriptions and then prepare and package medications for patients, which includes mixing sterile pharmaceuticals.

    24. Physical Therapist Assistant Promoting healthy lifestyles, preventing injury, designing exercise programs, reducing pain, or helping someone relearn how to sit-up, walk, run, or jump again are just a few of the skills a graduate from the Physical Therapist Assistant program can do.

    26. Radiation Therapy It is one of the ways patients are treated for therapeutic purposes. As a Radiation Therapist, you administer the prescribed treatment, keep patient records, and assist in patient care. It is in great demand and pays very well.     27. Radiologic Technology Radiographers are needed in every part of the health care industry from major hospitals to clinics and doctors’ offices. They use radiographic imaging equipment to provide patient services as prescribed by the physician. Radiographers perform medical imaging procedures by adapting technical variables to the condition of the patient.

    29. Respiratory Care Technology Respiratory therapists learn to care for and treat abnormalities of the lungs, heart and circulatory system. You would be responsible for patient management, treatment and preventive education.
