Methodology • Absolute numbers coming from Erasmus data and answers to the survey • Estimations based in the percentage of Erasmus outgoing students represented by responses (60.7% in 2003/04, 62.3% in 2004/05, 63.0% in 2005/06, 63.2% in 2006/07 and 62.6% in 2007/08) • Only students in exchange for more than three months considered • No work placements or language assistants included

  10. Problems to face when considering counting exchange students • Dispersion of sources: • European / International / Study Abroad / Exchange / Mobility / Any Office • Decentralised structures • Lack of records • Staff involved • Timing of the request

  11. Who to count? • Exchange students • Work Placements • Language / Comenius Assistants • Mobility to off-shore campuses • Short visits and field-trips • Short stays in developing countries • Intensive Programmes • PMI2 and other government initiatives

  12. Questions with no answer (yet) • What is student mobility? • Do we count only credited mobility? Or any? • What is the minimum length? • When is the best time to report? • Do we count bodies or mobility? • Do we make a distinction between home and international students? • How can we gather all information needed?
