  2. Background of Ivan Vasily II the Blind Ivan was born to Vasily II the Blind and Yelena of Borovsk Ivan’s father died when he was 22 years old He got married at the age of 12

  3. When did Ivan live? Ivan was born on Januray 22nd, 1440 and died October 27th, 1505 at the age of 65

  4. Who was Ivan? Better known as Ivan the Great, was a Grand Prince of Moscow. He took the throne after his father Vasily II.

  5. What made him so “Great”? Sometimes referred to as he “gatherer of the Russian lands”, he tripled the territory of his state, ended the dominance of the Golden Horde over the Rus, renovated the Moscow Kremlin, and laid the foundations of the Russian state. He was one of the longest-reigning Russian rulers in history. He completed the unification of Russian lands, and his reign marks the beginning of Muscovite Russia. The accomplishment for which Ivan is best known is the consolidation of Muscovite rule.

  6. In Loving Memory During Ivan’s major renovation of the Kremlin, he hired an Italian architect to replace the Church of St. Ivan of the Ladder-under-the Bell. In it’s place creating Ivan the Great Bell Tower. Construction was begun in 1505, the year of Ivan’s death and was completed three years later under his son Vasily III. Vasily also ordered that a new and an extremely large tower be erected on th foundations of the old tower as a monument to honor his father.
