  5. WHAT IF.... What if I told you that I have an opportunity for you to get a jump start on your career before you graduate from high school?

  10. So…what IS this jump start? I am so glad that you asked! It’s the dual enrollment program at Orange Technical College.

  11. How does it work? • You go to the OTC college campus for three to four periods a day. • While at the OTC college campus, you are engaged in hands-on learning taught by industry professionals. • Transportation to and from the OTC college campus is FREE.

  12. There’s more! • You can also gain industry certifications while doing dual enrollment. • It can mean a higher starting wage for a high school graduate. • Adults have to pay to take these tests, but they are FREE to you while you are in high school.

  13. So that’s it? Nope, there’s more! Many programs offer articulation credits to Valencia College. For example, when a student completes the Fundamental Foodservice Skills program and enrolls in Valencia, they could receive up to 12 credits towards their Culinary Management degree. That degree requires 60 credits, but a dual enrollment student can complete 20% of that requirement while in high school…for FREE.

  14. Um…that GPA thing? What’s that about? So let’s think this through…you’re in a program that you like. What grades will you get? What will happen to your weighted GPA? Who looks at your weighted GPA? Most of the courses at the OTC college campuses are either Honors or AP-weighted

  15. What requirements are there? • Junior or Senior in 2019 – 2020 school year • At least a 2.0 unweighted GPA • On track for graduation • Three to four free elective periods available in your schedule

  21. So what do I have to do? 1. Fill out an application, which you will receive after this presentation 2. Turn in your completed application:Who: Mr. TaranturWhere: Guidance OfficeBy : 12/20/18

Is that it? • I will review your application & if you meet the criteria, I will provide you with a field trip form You will fill out and get the appropriate signatures & return the form to me 4. You will accompany me on a field trip to visit the tech program of your choice You will see the program in which you are interested & you will get additional application paperwork at that time

  23. And then what? 5. If you choose to participate in dual enrollment next year: You will turn in your completed additional application paperwork to me 6. The OTC college campuses will notify me before the end of the school year about your status (accepted, denied, wait listed) I will notify you as soon as I receive word from the OTC college campuse

  24. So…to review • Free tuition and transportation • Focused, hands-on learning environment • Taught by industry leaders • Industry certifications • Articulation of credits to Valencia • Honors and AP-weighted credits

And the process? • Fill out application and return to me • Receive field trip form Have your parent or guardian sign it and you will return it to me • Go on the Orange Technical College visit (field trip) Receive additional application paperwork • Complete additional application paperwork & return back it to me • Await notification in May
