  2. Daily Learning Target • I can defend, through analysis of the text, that Santiago follows the hero’s journey.

  3. The Hero’s Journey

  4. Review from Yesterday • What are the challenges and temptations that Santiago faced when he first arrived in Africa? Why do they present a challenge for him?

  5. The Alchemist Finish reading to the end of Part One on page 47.

  6. Partner Book Reflection • How do Santiago’s thoughts and perceptions about himself and the world begin to change on pp. 42-44? Describe three things that Santiago sees now that he had never noticed before. • The Alchemist is both a fable and an allegory. Find three examples in Part One of the moral lesson. Write down the lesson and the page number. You will use this for a later essay. • Unspoken Language- Think about the various forms of unspoken language we experience around us every day. What gestures, facial expressions, intuitions and signals do we give and receive to guide us in our responses, actions, reactions and relationships? • Draw a picture representation of the story up until this point. You can draw using a comic format, stick figures, or “real” art. Include a written description of the picture representation.
