  2. WHAT IS URBAN CENTRE? The centre offers information about prepared investment and development projects both for citizens and visitors of Brno and invites everyone, who is interested in the future look of the city to come and visit it. • What can you get in the Urban centre? • information about exhibited projects from regularly changed expositions in the exhibition hall or from nice Urban centre employees

  3. What can you get in the Urban centre? • the idea about changes in the city with the help of maps, models and visualization • you have the opportunity to see animations of projects on the large-screen displays

What can you get in the Urban centre? • you can participate on lectures and discussions with experts about history, present and future of the south moravian metropolis • you have the opportunity to express your opinion, leave here your suggestions and ideas, which will be given to the qualified person • you can get advertising leaflets

  5. Urban centre, started the activity in the end of March 2006 in newly reconstructed space in Room Makovského in the Old town hall in Brno. The founder is the Brno City Municipality. Urban centre, Room Makovského, Old town hall, Mečová 5, 602 00 Brno www.urbancentrum.brno.cz

  6. URBAN CENTRE ACTIVITIES • The first exposition was the exhibition of two proposal for the reconstruction of the Dominican square in Brno. The proposals where introduced by two models in scale 1:100. The visitors had the opportunity to give their voice to one of the proposals. The reconstruction will accept the winning proposal. • In April 2006 the former and present mayor discussed there with the citizens the present and the future of their town.

  7. URBAN CENTRE ACTIVITIES • In Urban centre took place several meetings of work groups to update Strategy for Brno. The aim of this project is to set up the long term vision of the city. The representatives both of professional and public subject looked for the answer to questions about image of Brno, it‘s economical development, the living quality in the town, science and research development, traffic infrastructure and enhancing the environment. • The exhibition about brown fields in Brno introduced to the visitors the famous past of industrial Brno and the destiny of some abandoned and desolated factories, that were successfully brought back to life.

COMMUNICATION PRINCIPLES • Exhibition techniques • the exhibitions supporting separate projects and including models, material artefacts, exhibition boards • multimedia – showing visualizations on large-screen displays, interactive use of computers • the integral design of the centre within Brno City Municipality conception – it‘s transparent, the visitor can easily orientate and classify the projects, actions and documentation • the personal explanation is provided by the staff in the centre, if visitors are interested

  9. COMMUNICATION PRINCIPLES • Web pages • introduce the aim of Urban centre • inform about particular projects, actions • acquaint with the history of Brno • give the opportunity to vote in inquiries • give the links to relevant departments of Brno City Municipality for individual projects

FINAL SUMMARY • opening of the Urban centre is the significant point in public participation in planning processes in Brno, even if there are reserves – to integrate public before the projects are proposed, ideas and suggestions given by public incorporate right into the proposal • public get used to the possibility to influence the environment fast – when in Urban centre were exhibited proposals for the statue of W. A. Mozart for Brno, together with results of the competition, in which the expert jury chose the winning proposal, people complained, that the statue should be chosen by visitors of Urban centre and Brno citizens • from the exhibitory point of view is Urban centre an example of a high quality prepared space with well developed conception, use of different exhibition techniques and with integral expression of it‘s whole presentation in the way it should look like
