  1. Production of energy in Latvia Danuta Andersone, Sindija Gūtmane

  2. Content • AS “Latvenergo” • Hydroelectric power stations (HPS) • Rīga HPS • Ķeguma HPS • Pļaviņu HPS • Aiviekstes HPS • Termoelectric power stations • TPC-1, TPC-2 • Wind energy • Chart • Utilization of polygon “Getliņi” gas • Solarenergy, heatpump • Plan for year 2022

  3. AS „Latvenergo” • Leading company of electricity and thermal energy in Latvia. • Producemore than half of the country’selectricity. • Electricity comes from renewable and environmentally friendly energy sources.

  4. Hydroelectric power stations

  5. Hydroelectric power station of Riga • The newest hydroelectric power station oftheriver Daugava. • The great attention is paid to the safety of hydraulic structures: • High safety of the ground dams • Special computer program that monitors and analyzes dams. • Frequently, the construction of concrete structures and surface restoration is made.

  6. RigasHPS

  7. Hydroelectric power station of Ķegums • Is the oldest andthethird largest hydroelectric power station in Latvia. • Oftherequired 52 million lats, 4 milliongavethegovernmentofLatvia, buttheremainingwasthedonationfromLatvianpeople. • In 2011, it produced 531,8 GWhofelectricpower.

  8. KegumaHPS

  9. Hydroelectric power station of Pļaviņas • In terms of capacity it is the largest hydroelectric power stationin the Baltic States and the second largest in the European Union. • In 2012, it produced 2067 GWh of electric power.

  10. Pļaviņas Plavinas

  11. Hydroelectric power station of Aiviekste • It was the first that started to produce electric power in country, in 1925. • Its common capacity is 0,8 MW, and it produces 3 GWh electric power in a year.

  12. Thermoelectric power stations

  13. Rīgas TPC-1 un Rīgas TPC-2 • Both thermoelectric power stations works in cogeneration system, which is the most energy-efficient and environmentally friendly form of energy production.

  14. Thermoelectricstation

  15. Wind energy • Wind electric power station Ainaži was set up in 1996, it was the largest one with capacity around 1.2 MW. • NowthesewindgeneratorsaresetupalsoinotherplacesinLatvia, mostlyaroundthecoast. Oneofthelargestwindgeneratorparkisin Grobiņa.

  17. Capacity of the electric power stations

  18. Utilization of the «Getliņi» gas • One of the largest green energy producers in Latvia. • The source of energy – gas, which is formed by waste deposits in the polygon. • Theburnedgasuses to heatthebuildingsandgreenhouses • Ingreenhousesgrowtomatoesandstrawberries.

  21. Solarenergy, heat pump installation • Solar and inLatvia is not so widespread; mostly individuals have ones, becausesolar and heat pump reduces cost of electricity.

  22. Electricity and power demand forecast for the next 10 years.
