  4. Pattern • What pattern do you notice as you go down each column? • In the first column each term is ½ the previous term. • In the second column, each term is 1/5 the pervious column • In the third column, each term is 1/10 the pervious column

  5. Continue the pattern • Use the previous pattern to complete the table

  11. Population Growth • A biologist is studying the growth of a particular insect. In the lab, the population doubles every week. The expression of • 1000 *2w models an initial population of 100 insects after w weeks of growth. • Evaluate the expression for w=0. Describe what the value of the expression represents in this situation.

  12. Evaluate the expression for w = -3. Then describe what the value of the expression represents in this situation • 125. There were 125 insects 3 weeks before the present population of 1000 insects.
