The impact of the Financial Crisis on the Cyprus economy and labour market • GDP- The GDP growth rate during the second quarter of 2009 is negative and estimated at -1,1% compare to 3.8% in the corresponding quarter of 2008. • Unemployment Rate : The unemployment rate increased to 5.5% in July 2009 compare to 3.6% in July 2008 • Sectors Most Affected: construction, trade, real estate , hotels and restaurants and manufacturing.

Methodology Literature surveyed • Mixture of academic literature and surveys by experts. • It is important to note that the majority of the surveys that related to the subject and took place in Cyprus have focused on women since women’s employment rate is much lower in comparison to men’s employment rate. • However, work-life measures are assumed to be more beneficial for women with work or without work who have family responsibilities.
