5 Questions To Ask When Choosing A Fitness Center
There’s so much choice that it’s practically impossible to choose a fitness class without being
confused. While some fitness regimes aim to cover a range of fitness goals, others are designed
to target specific muscle groups. If you are confused about choosing a fitness center, here are
five questions to help you make a choice:
• What is my fitness goal?
Are you looking to lose weight, or tone up? Do you intend to increase endurance, or pump iron
in the gym? Find a fitness center that’s aligned to your goals. For those who don’t like to light
weights or take the treadmill, dance based aerobics classes offer the perfect solution. Zumba, for
example, is a modern dance-based exercise. It combines salsa, merengue, and other traditional
Latin dance elements to offer fast-paced beats. Belly dancing classes are also popular and perfect
for people looking for an abdominal workout.
• Are there opportunities for cross training?
Fitness experts do not tie you to a regime to prevent over –training. This gives the body time to
recover and helps to avoid exercise fatigue. Does the fitness center offer cross training? Ask for
the complementary training sessions that help you to try something different.
• Are you looking for a personal trainer or group sessions?
The quality of your training session depends on the quality of the instructor imparting training. Is
the instructor engaging and likable? Do they motivate you to do your best? A good fitness
instructor always pushes you to do your best, yet knows when to stop. Their coaching is in line
with your fitness goals.
• Are they budget - friendly?
While you get what you pay for, it is not always that price equals quality. Some fitness centers
justify high rates because they’re in a hip end of the town. Does the fitness center offer discount
seasons? And what if you do not like, but have already joined and are a few days into training?
Look for fitness centers that offer trial sessions – these typically last for about a week and
include the gym’s traditional offerings.
• Is the gym clean?
Unclean gyms harbor dangerous bacteria including the deadly Staphylococcus or Staph. Run
your hand over the equipment to look for dust. Stay away from the ones that are dirty –they’re
not well maintained and speak volumes about the fitness gym’s attitude towards hygiene.
