  1. Earthquakes By Rhys Zoldi

  2. How Earthquakes are Formed • When two Tectonic plates collide under a landform making the ground vibrate above the collision therefore creating an Earthquake.

  3. Earthquakes Everywhere • Thousands of Earthquakes happen all around the world every day! If you are wondering if there has never been an Earthquake in any location the answer is most likely no because we don’t know if there never was an Earthquake not recorded, but we do know that the least likely place an Earthquake to occur and that is in the middle of a continent because there are no boarders of tectonic plates in the center of a continent. China America India Scandinavia Germany Italy

  4. Mexico City Earthquake of 1985 • During the Mexico Earthquake 9,500 people were killed and over 30,000 injured in the disaster. Although the City you are living in looks perfectly normal try to imagine the chaos of an quake ravaging your surroundings.

  5. $How Much Money? $ • The Mexico City Earth quake of 1985 was devastating and its not free to just have workers come in and clean up a whole entire city! Therefore the cost of the repairs was 4 million dollars. Not a lot right now right, but with the added inflation amount if it happened now it would have cost 4 billion dollars!

  6. Be Prepared = • If you plan ahead and prepare for an earthquake it increases your chance of survival significantly. These are a few ways you can do that: • Store weed killer and pesticides securely in closed cabinets (Fire hazards). • Try to flee to someplace where its an open space like a valley or meadow-like area (No trees, buildings, electric lines etc).

  7. Can they be predicted? • Actually unlike some other natural disasters Earthquakes can not be predicted. A group of Scientists attempted to foresee one in 2004. Sadly before the Earthquake occurred there were no evident signs that let the Scientists know it was happening.

  8. Can they be Prevented? • No just like predicting preventing an Earthquake is just as hard or even impossible but Scientists never give up hope and are raising money right now for the knowledge of stopping an Earthquake.

  9. Earth Shaking Facts (part #1) • Fact #1: The Mexico City Earthquake was felt by over 20 million people (a couple hundred people were even in Texas)!!!!!!! • Fact #2: Over 3,124 buildings were either destroyed or heavily damaged!!

  10. Earth Shaking Facts (part #2) • Fact #3: The Mexico City Earthquake had a magnitude of 8.0 a devastating rating. • Fact #4: The central City (drained Lake Texcoco) endured the deadliest shaking because the different soil type amplified the vibration waves.
