  2. What Is Technology?

  3. Reason for Technology: • There are so many different types of medical technology equipment today to help find different methods in treating the animals in a faster professional manner.

  4. Types of Technology Used:

  5. Types of Technology Con’t:

  6. Computers: • Use database systems to keep client records & invoicing • Make certificates, prescription labeling, inventory control • Appointment scheduling, & purchasing reminders

  7. Surgical Lasers: • Lasers cut, burn, & vaporize, tissue for many different surgeries. • Offers a precise & non-c0ntact surgery method for both small & large animals. • There is less bleeding, pain, swelling, & reduces the risk of infection. • Speeds bone repair, releases tight muscles, & stimulates healing enzymes.

  8. Microchips: • Chip administered to the animal to help identify that animal • A scanner is run over the animals body until it finds the chip and reads the identification number.

  9. Prosthetics: • Veterinarians are learning to use pieces of metal & plastic to form fins, beaks, legs, & more. • Have helped animals live longer lives as if they hadn’t lost anything at all.

  10. Digital Radiography: • X-ray system that gives the veterinarian immediate results of the test without waiting for the film to be developed • Images can be enlarged for closer examination • Enhances the workflow & increases productivity.

  11. Vet Tech Like Human Tech:

  12. Vet Procedures Like Human Procedures:

  13. Benefits of Technology:

  14. Disadvantages Of Technology In The Veterinary Field: • The newer the technology the more price people pay. Hospital rates have risen since they need the money to help pay for the costs of the equipment repairs if needed. • Cost for the owners • Bills are rising 9% a year • Dialysis treatment $12,000 • MRI $ 1,200 • Caner treatment nearly $40,000 • Insurance • Pet insurance mainly for the owners heart not one’s pocketbook • Co-pay $50 per office visit • Only covers 40%-80% of procedure.

  15. Summary: • The technology equipment used in veterinary care is more advanced than ever before. • Due to the advancement in the equipment more animals have been saved by technology instead of going straight to euthanasia. • Most of the technology used by vets are also used by human doctors, therefore, they share in the advancement in the tech world together.
