ECO-IRU Silk Road Truck Caravan 2010 Results indicated that the Caravan has achieved its set objectives and that the main non-physical barriers, notably at borders, mostly stemfrominefficient implementation of the key UN multilateral trade and road transport facilitation instruments. ECO’s objectives that echo IRU’s goals : • Progressive removal of trade barriers and promotion of intra- regional trade; • Gradual integration of the economies of the Member States with the world economy; • Development of transport andcommunications infrastructure linking the Member States with each other and with the outside world.

Continuation of the ECO/IRU Silk Road Caravan Collecting and analysing data about actual road transport conditions faced by professional truck drivers during commercial cargo deliveries Special Questionnaires developed in line with the World Bank directives The UNESCAP Time/Cost-Distance methodology for data analysis Main Objectives Promotion and facilitation of international road transport and trade in the ECO Member States through monitoring physical and non-physical barriers for transit transport
