How will my AWL profile affect my choices in KS4? • If Mastering in Science, students have a free choice of FOUR subjects and are strongly advised to choose one “Facilitating” Subject. • If Non-mastering in Science, students should choose at least one “Facilitating” Subject and then a further three subjects. • If Emerging/developing in English, be careful not to choose too many literacy heavy subjects.

Progression to Beal Sixth Form and beyond An Outstanding 6th form: • On average 85% of students progress from Year 11 to Beal High School Sixth Form • 90% of students in Year 12 are successful and progress to Year 13 compared to a national figure of 82% • 25.9% students achieving AAB in at least two facilitating subjects • 90% average successful university applications, 10% apprenticeship, employment, gap year

  18. Myth Busting- ‘Universities prefer A-levels to BTECs’. Beal BTEC students have progressed to study at: Kings College, London, Queen Mary, University of London, Westminster, City, Greenwich, Sheffield Hallam, University of Kent, University of Essex, Nottingham University and Hertfordshire University. Loughborough University and more … Students should look at their combination of subjects and RESEARCH what 6th form colleges and universities require. Rely on careful research and not on popular media myths!

What will top universities look at? • 8 top grades at GCSE (including English & Maths) • Medical courses may ask for 5 GCSE’s at grades 8/9 • Most Universities will ask for a minimum of a grade 4 in English and Maths • Some degree courses will ask for higher than this • 4 top grades (A/A*) at A-level • MFL qualifications are valued amongst admissions tutors • Extra-Curricular activities

  24. Important dates • Tuesday 27th February Activation of online options form • Monday 5th March – IAG sessions Friday 16th March • Monday 19th March Deadline for Return of Options form to tutors • April /MayAdditional IAG for some students

  25. What students should bring with them to their IAG? Progress Files which will contain: Your Personal statement “My Choices”Options Form with your intentions. This serves as a starting point for the meeting This is not your final options form. The final options form needs to be signed by student and parents and returned to Year 9 tutors.
