About CIE • Cambridge International Examinations (CIE), situated at Cambridge, United Kingdom, is the world's largest provider of international qualifications for 14-19 year-olds and is part of the world-renowned University of Cambridge. • CIE examinations are taken in over 150 different countries. • Cambridge qualifications are recognised by universities, colleges and employers across the globe.

IGCSE • The International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) is provided by the University of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE), one of the world’s leading providers of examinations. • IGCSE is a high profile qualification with an excellent reputation. • It is recognized by universities and institutes of higher education around the world. • It is equivalent in standard to the British GCSE and International GCE O Level examinations.

International Certificate of EducationICE • Most of our students are registered for the ICE certification. • To be eligible for ICE, they must study a minimum of 7 subjects which includes 2 subjects from Group I and one subject each from Groups II, III, IV and V. The seventh subject can be taken from any of the five subject Groups. • Depending upon the grades achieved, students are awarded either a distinction, merit or pass on their ICE certificate.

Overview IGCSE provides a broad study programme by drawing subjects from five different areas: Group I : Languages Group II : Humanities and Social Sciences Group III : Sciences Group IV : Mathematics Group V : Professional and Creative Within the curriculum there is a balanced mix of practical experience and theoretical knowledge. With a choice of core and extended papers in most subjects, the IGCSE is suitable for students with different levels of ability.

IGCSE Examinations and Results • CIE conducts exams in May and for most of the subjects in November also. • At Al Manahil, the examinations are taken in May/June • Examination results are given as grades and not as percentages. • The grades are A*, A, B, C, D, E, F & G • The highest grade for Core subject is a ‘C’ and for extended subject in A*

  9. International Certificate of Education • Distinction – 5 subjects passed with grade A or above and 2 subjects with grade C or above. • Merit – 5 subjects passed with grade C or above and 2 subjects with grade F or above • Pass – 7 subjects passed with grade G or above.

  10. Changing Subjects The IGCSE is a 2 year programme and we do not encourage students to change subjects.

Student Assessment 3 Summative assessments 3 Mid Term assessments Assessment will be for portions completed to date Towards the end of Grade 10, 3 Mock Examinations Reports will follow each examination session and parents will be invited to meet the teachers at the end of assessment. Attendance is compulsory.

Syllabus Completion • The focus will be to complete the syllabus by November, 2018 • Students will have to go through 3 Mock Examinations • It’s the responsibility of Parents of to ensure that the home learning is completed and submitted in time • All student work will be assessed and feedback given to the student

Home Learning Policy • Homework will be given to the students based on a weekly schedule • Each student should take responsibility and make entries of home learning assigned • It’s the responsibility of Parents of to ensure that the home learning is completed and submitted in time • All student work will be assessed and feedback given to the student

  14. Registering for the examination • The subject teachers will make the decision regarding registering of students for the final examinations. They will use their professional judgment and experience to come to these decisions and have the full support and confidence of the Principal. • The decision whether to register a student for core or extended papers will be taken after the Mock Examination Grade 10 ie: January, 2019.

Communication The stages of Academic related communications from the Parents to the School will be as follows: (a)    Stage 1:   E-mail to the concerned subject Teacher with a copy marked to the Head of Key Stage. (b) Stage 2:   Telephone the school and ask to speak with the Head of Key Stage. (c) Stage 3:   Personal visit to the School.   Parents are requested to use e-mails as the primary means of communication. In case their query / problem is unresolved, they may move to the next stage. However, for issues requiring immediate attention, please use any mode of communication.
