  12. Experimental statistics Calendar years between proposal acceptance and first counted shifts (for active proposals and those closed in 2010 and 2011) (note: first attempts often result in 0 shifts counted, real waiting time is lower than that presented) 3 years 2 years Same year 1 year Average < 1 year

  13. Status of experiments • CRIS beamline fully operational; alpha decay station being tested at ISOLDE

  14. Status of experiments • Beta-NMR tilted-foils setup ready and taking REX stable beam this week

  15. Status of experiments • ISOTRAP recovered quickly from a magnet quench (in February, exactly 1 year from the previous one) • WITCH intermediate field allows REX mass scaling (but due to other problems new REX settings for many masses are not yet available) • WITCH got first preliminary physics results: in spite of opening up the setup 2 times just before the run • MINIBALL T-REX chamber used successfully for Coulex experiments • GLM will soon see a new diffusion chamber (tested in b. 275 and to be tested at LA1) • Digital perturbed angular correlation setup in b. 115 delivering high-quality data • ASPIC will be revived: student from Korea assisted by A. Gottberg (Thierry’s fellow)

  16. 17. News from ISOLDE • More free space in ISOLDE extension, SAS area, and b. 275 thanks to clean-up actions during shutdown • Rearrangement of the control room • New rules for kitchen use -> more tidy • Jungle behind ISOLDE cut • Pre- and turbo-pumps for common use available: contact J. Thiboud • Improved supply of electronics modules (key with MK) • Simple digital DAQ system in demand (MINIBALL tests, CRIS, ISOLTRAP) • ISOLDE offices fully occupied during summer (students, visitors)

  18. Safety • Safety files for fixed experiments evaluated by safety responsibles: reports and steps to follow with local responsibles -> to be addressed until next running period • Improved traceability of implanted samples: Karl’s database includes storage location and is available to RP personnel • Extension of b. 115 and move of SSP lab from b.275 under way: funding guaranteed, planned for this shutdown • ISOLDE will have a dedicated “RP expert” who will take care of sources, etc: J. Thiboud will follow a 2-week RP course in Lausanne (cost covered by RP) • Key cabinet with access only for those with valid ISOLDE access will be installed next Monday in ISOLDE control room: place for common ISOLDE keys; traceability of who/and when took which key • Problems with some RP shipments and source requests due to personnel issues at RP: informed the RP Group Leader, Doris Forkel-Wirth

  19. Safety • Rearrangement of b. 115: all samples and sources stored in a well separated area; chemistry and measurement area also separated

  20. Long shutdown • Most probable scenario: physics for everybody until December 2012 Injectors restart in April/May 2014 No Linac4 connection To be decided at the beginning of 2012

  30. WITCH • Additional shielding for REX mass separator installed and tested in December: • magnet at nominal field: losses when scaling masses • Magnet at ca 50% of the field: full mass scaling possible after re-steering the beam • Difficult access to REX diagnostics => REX operation and scaling possible after finding new settings for each mass range; details to be discussed with Fredrik and Didier • Physics run on 35Ar scheduled for week 46 had to be cancelled: WITCH trap damage due to over-baking

  31. ISOLTRAP decay-spectroscopy station • commissioning beamtime in Sep 2009 • first real online run in Nov 2010, assisting mass measurements: determination of excitation energy and assignment of state to 194Tl isomer
