Our Trash Free Lunch Adventure

Our Trash Free Lunch Adventure. Before ABNL. “We have a lot of trash in our lunch room. It was like a giant dumpster. We didn’t do anything about it because we didn’t know about trash free lunches. We tried to recycle last year but we didn’t have enough money for the recycle program.”.

  1. Our Trash Free Lunch Adventure

  2. Before ABNL “We have a lot of trash in our lunch room. It was like a giant dumpster. We didn’t do anything about it because we didn’t know about trash free lunches. We tried to recycle last year but we didn’t have enough money for the recycle program.”

  3. At ABNL “Ms. Donohue to the rescue. We learned how to be trash free. We practiced being trash free all week at ABNL. We sat in a circle and shared ideas and things we brought to be trash free.

  4. After ABNL “Now we try to be trash free so the earth can stay healthy. We use reusable containers, water bottles, cloth napkins, metal spoons and metal silverware. We try to pack only the foods we like. If we don’t like something we take it home, tell our mom and dad, or just eat it up.”

  5. Our School Project “ We broke into groups and chose a job. The jobs were trash free police, newspaper, commercials, posters and flyers, and morning announcements.” We are having a trash free competition in our lunches. We are weighing the trash twice a week and recording it on a graph. We hope it’s a good score and each time it’s a little lighter. We have 3 lunches, when we started we had over 150 pounds of trash, we’re getting better!

  6. Lunch Graphs • The black bar graph shows the data we collected before beginning trash free lunches.

  15. Thank you!! “Someone said it’s a coincidence but I know it’s Annie.” ~ An excited second grader. We are so thankful for beautiful gifts/moments Annie continues to give hundreds of kids each year! She has taught us to look at the world through eyes of stewards. When you are have a positive outlook on making the world a better place the obstacles, are out of focus. Thank you beyond words can express to: Jerry and Betty, Margaret and Rose Ann, our favorite Naturalist Jackie, all of the foundation members and individuals/companies that help fund ABNL and last but not least Kathy Donahue for the inspiration and support!
