Run IV Operations (I) • 10 ladders installed • 4 RDO (reading 5 half-ladders each) installed • SSD in the runs during the Au+Au period (60 +14 Mevents) • Data taking problems : • 1 RDO became silent around mid-Feb. (current explanation : a component died on the RDO board) • 2 RDO’s became silent after the shutdown prior to the p+p period (power cable disconnected) • FEE chips on full ladders were erratically loosing their bias (parasitic RESET produced on the ADC boards) FY04 STAR Operations Critique Meeting – June, 11th – SSD Operations

Run IV Operations (II) • One compressor failure ie no cooling (no explanation, power cycling fixed it) • Few slow control VME board failures (OK after a reboot) • No correct handling of the L2_ACCEPT signal (bug in the RDO FPGA ?) • Operation features/problems : • Relatively easy to operate • Slow Control GUI modified during the run • Operation Manual updated during the run • Online histograms added during the run • Alarm handler prepared but not activated during the run • 2 remote detector experts but nobody on site FY04 STAR Operations Critique Meeting – June, 11th – SSD Operations

Run V plans (I) • Install 10 more ladders in July (7 already produced) • Fix or change the failing RDO board • Fix the RESET problem on the ladders (signal not used by the slow control anyway) • Fix the L2_ACCEPT problem this summer (need suitable DAQ and trigger components for the tests) • Revisit the slow control GUI, operation guide, Online histograms • Integrate the SSD alarms to the STAR alarm handler • Define some typical plots and distributions for the QA • Use the SSD electro. logbook to record SSD problems • Try to have an expert on site (any person from BNL willing to learn is welcome…) FY04 STAR Operations Critique Meeting – June, 11th – SSD Operations
