Learning Target. I will be able to analyze relief maps and apply the information learned in order to explain the affect of geography on human settlement and culture in mainland China. Political Maps Show boundaries of countries, states, cities etc. as well as the political data .

  1. Learning Target • I will be able to analyze relief maps and apply the information learned in order to explain the affect of geography on human settlement and culture in mainland China.

  2. Political MapsShow boundaries of countries, states, cities etc. as well as the political data

  3. Physical Maps – Show the features of Earth’s natural surface deserts, mountains, etc.

  4. Historical Maps – Show the locations of past events.

  5. Distribution MapsShows the spread of things such as religion, vegetation, population etc. throughout an area.

  6. Trade Routes – Show routes to deliver goods

  7. Climate Maps – Show the world climates by area.

  8. Population Density Map – Shows the number of people in an area per square mile

  9. Road MapGives directions in a particular city, state, etc.

  10. RELIEF MAPS A map that shows the unevenness of a surface. Some relief maps are three-dimensional. • How are they different from other maps? What is a relief map? The main purpose is to show elevation. They may also have physical and political features

  11. RELIEF MAPS What additional information can relief maps provide for us? They show elevation and distance, so you know how steep something is. 1 mile up and 100 miles across is fine 1 mile up and 1 mile across is steep • Military • Hiking • Running • Rock climbing • Planning roads or buildings When would one use a relief map?

  23. Annotating your Relief Map Create a Key on your relief map to show the different elevations. Level 1(Green) 0 - 1,150 Feet Level 2 (Yellow) 1,150 – 4,500 Feet Level 3(Orange) 4,500 – 8,200 Feet Level 4(Red) 8,200 – 18,000 Feet • Add the Pacific Ocean on your map. • Shade in brown the Gobi Desert • Draw in the Himalayas • Draw in the Great Wall of China
