According to Andreas Cappellanus,’s “De Amore”, therewerespecificphasesof the process of Love:

  • The process of love startedfrom eye-contact with the woman;

  • The worship of the lady from afar;

  • The declaration of passionate devotion;

  • The raising of the woman figure;

  • The virtuous rejection by the lady;

  • Heroic deeds by the man, whose level is increased by the presence of the lady;

  • Consummation of the secret love;

  • Endless adventures and subterfuges avoiding detection;

COURT NOWADAYS

Nowadays the act of courting is generally a

male’s function, even if there are many cases

where the woman courts the man.

The most common court forms are:

  • Speaking directly to the girl to show her one’s involvement;

  • Sending text messages;


Differences between today s courting and the medieval ones

DIFFERENCES BETWEEN TODAY’S COURTING AND THE MEDIEVAL ONES

  • During the Middle Ages Courting was necessarily a male’s function. Nowadays things have changed.

  • The medieval language of love had religious purposes, nowadays it concerns physical standards;

  • The courtly satisfaction wasn’t given by carnal love.

  • Medieval love usually elapsed between people who belonged to the same social class.
