  3. What NCVPS is not? • NCVPS is not an online school • NCVPS is not a “teach yourself” program • NCVPS is not the solution for students who “don’t like school” • NCVPS is not easy

  4. Why take a NCVPS course? • Allows for scheduling flexibility • Courses not offered in a traditional setting • Accelerate to early graduation • Recover credit for failed courses • Builds self-motivation, independence, resourcefulness

  5. Characteristics of Distance Learners • Strong organization skills • Independence, self-direction • Strong reading and writing skills • Self-advocacy • Comfortable with technology

  6. Common Reasons for NCVPS Failure • Lack of organization • Poor communication • Over-reaching • Course was taken to avoid school

  7. NCVPS Course Offerings • Full course offerings with course descriptions and pre-requisites can be found at www.ncvps.org * • Course Types • Traditional • Year-Long (all AP and some foreign language) • Credit Recovery * Some courses may not be available to our students

  8. NCVPS Summer Program • June 11th – August 3rd • Traditional Courses • Must attend orientation at designated lab during Week One • Compressed schedule (2-3 hrs per day) • Credit Recovery • Must attend daily at designated lab • Mastery-based program

NCVPS - School Year • What does NCVPS look like at Hoggard? • During school hours – MC-11 • 28 computers and full-time facilitator • All underclassmen are required to take NCVPS courses on-campus in MC-11 unless accelerating • Seniors may have the option of taking a course during 1st or 4th block from home

  10. NCVPS – School Year • Progress monitoring • Monthly updates • Parental access • Communicating with teacher • Email, chat, text, etc • Live tutoring sessions
