  2. FOSREF Mission • Haitian NGO created in 1988 • FOSREF recognized the importance of focusing of youth and adolescents due to the increasing problems youth were facing in regards to early and unwanted pregnancies and risk of contracting HIV/AIDS.

  3. Availability of youth centers • In1995,opened the first center in the field of sexual and reproductive health and HIV/AIDS prevention programs for youth and adolescents. • First NGO to provides Education/ Prevention programs coupled with clinical services to youth and adolescents.

  4. Target Population • Primary Target population: youth 10-24 years of age • Girls and boys • In and out of school youth • Rural and Urban settings • Secondary target population: parents, community leaders etc..

  7. FOSREF Objectives • Make accessible SRH services as well as family education to youth • Reduce the incidence of early and unwanted pregnancy among youth and adolescents • Reduce the incidence of STI/HIV/AIDS among youth and adolescents

  8. FOSREF Objectives • Increase the safe sex practices among youth (ABC concept) • Offer SRH services to vulnerable groups (youth sex workers, street children, children living in domesticity, etc)

  9. Strategies • To address the unmeet needs of youth and adolescents in regards to sexual and reproductive health and HIV/AIDS prevention. • Services are nationwide, free of charge, and serve more than 1.4 million youth and adolescents in the country

  10. Strategic Axes of InterventionIEC/BCC • IEC/BCC putting the emphasis on ABC approach • Family life education 1 week seminar • Sex Education in schools with Ministry of Education • Entertainment-education • Peer education

  11. Strategies • Youth for youth • Community mass mobilization (including media, advocacy and mobile services) • SRH Clinical services adapted to youth • Training of specialized youth • Community outreach programs for in and out of school youth

  12. Clinical Services • Youth Friendly SRH clinical services • Access to gynecologist and Urologist • Access to psychologist/youth counselors • Pre-natal follow-up • Family Planning • Diagnostic and treatment of STI • Access to VCT

  13. Results to date • 1.5 million youth sensitized and informed directly on responsible sexual behavior (ABC), HIV/AIDS prevention, VCT,etc • 120,000 youth received counseling sessions on the prevention of STI/HIV/AIDS, importance of VCT,etc… nationwide/year

  14. Results to date • 800 trained specialized youth peers • 12,000 youth have received the 1 week family life education seminar • 20 sensitization sessions for parents, community leaders, per year • Hundreds of youth tested for HIV • More than 1 million condom distributed • KAP studies
