Wednesday (3/14/12) • Objective: Students will recognize and define literary terms seen in The Pearl and use this knowledge to infer the author’s use of them. • Thought of the Day • Journal write: Everyday we are surrounded by symbols. In fact our past is flooded with symbols (of childhood (blanket), failure (last place spelling bee ribbon), pride (a trophy), etc). Write about a powerful symbol from your past. What did it mean to you back then, and it has it come to represent something else today? Use sensory details to get at the mood of the symbol. You may write about this in story format if you wish. • Literary terms jig-saw • HW: Read Ch. 4 and respond to the prompt in the forums on my blog
