  3. What have we been doing so far? This year is off to a great start! Many students have shown interest in Community Service Projects and are really trying to meet (and exceed) their required hours by participating in after school activities, community volunteering opportunities, etc. Teachers have immersed their students in meaningful units and are successful in creating thoughtful, creative learning environment. The 8th grade was lucky to go on a field trip to the Renaissance Faire. Students were excited to learn the “lingo” of the time and came back to Talley bearing trinkets and fun memories.

  4. Contacts, Handbooks, Etc. At the start of the school year, students were given a copy of the IBMYP Handbook as well as copies of the Academic Contract. At this point in time: The back page of the handbook should have been signed by a parent/guardian and returned The Academic Contract should have been signed by both student and parent/guardian and returned.

  5. The Website We are working very hard this year to update the website with all appropriate information for current IB Students as well as potential IB Students. Please check the website for important information regarding meetings, trips, etc. The website now has links to paperwork for those considering the transition to Mt. Pleasant High School. Copies of all paperwork, including the Community Service Verification Form can also be found as an attachment.

  6. Community Service We have received many, many phone calls and e-mails regarding appropriate community service opportunities. Acceptable Community Service opportunities include, but are not limited to: Helping a member of the community Volunteering time at an organization Mentoring younger children Neighborhood clean-ups Volunteering at a local soup kitchen

  7. IBMYP Transition to Mount Pleasant There are two primary forms potential Mount Pleasant IB attendees must fill out during the course of their 8th grade year. The forms should be returned to Talley (attn: Ms. Feder) who will forward the forms to Mount Pleasant. These forms can be found on our website. • The Mount Pleasant Honor Code • The Mount Pleasant Information Sheet For those interested, shadowing at Mount Pleasant is an excellent way to gain insight into the typical IB High School workday.

  10. Trips, Events, Etc. 7th Grade ELA classes will be attending a Delaware Theatre Company performance of “A Christmas Carol” on December 13th. A group of Mount Pleasant High School International Baccalaureate students will be venturing to Talley on the morning of November 29th to speak with our 8th grade students about the high school IB program. This will be more of a student-centered question-and-answer panel. Talley’s “Community Service” month will commence during the week of Thanksgiving and continue until winter break. Students will learn more about our various service activities shortly.

  11. Tutoring Program and Practice Skills Talley Middle School offers free tutoring to students on various days of the week. Tutoring is offered for Language Arts, Mathematics, and some homework help in other areas. Teachers also suggest certain online webpages for students during the various stages of studying. • Compass Learning • Quizlet.com
