  1. Creating Documents Layout and Design with Tables and Frames

  2. Tables • tables are used to collect data in columns and rows • tables usually have borders and cell spacing • tables are “elastic;” they shrink and expand with the size of their contents and the width of the browser page • “invisible” tables (without borders) may be used to organize space on the page

  3. Tables: Cells • are composed of cells organized in columns (down) and rows (across) • usually have borders, cellpadding (spacing within the cell), and cellspacing (room between cells) • usually are elastic--they grow and shrink with the content of the cell • cells can have colors and even backgrounds

  4. Frames • frames divide the browser window into a series of panes (called a “frameset”) • these panes (“frames”) are individual pages displayed in the window simultaneously • frames are used to create interface elements such as menus and indices • frames inform the reader about the scope of a Web site

  5. Individual Frames • framed pages have borders and can have scroll bars • frames are usually resized when the browser page is resized (but this is optional) • you may target links (and their pages) to specific frames
