  1. Who, Where, what, how, and why? Welcome to Sra. Martín’s Spanish class!

  2. WHO… AM I?*Stephanie Martín*24 years in the district *I have taught students from 1st through 12th grades

  3. WHERE… DID I STUDY/LEARN SPANISH?*I began my studies in high school (for the native St. Louisans – CorJesu Academy)*I received my BA from the University of Tulsa, after completing my Junior year at La Universidad Complutense de Madrid*I received my Master’s from Washington University

  4. WHAT… AM I TEACHING?Popular Culture of Contemporary SpainOur class time is spent almost entirely in Spanish listening to, watching and reading authentic sources (music, TV programs, periodicals, etc.). We discuss their meaning, share ideas and express opinions. Through these endeavors students come to understand what life in contemporary Spain is like, as well as the historic, economic, and social underpinnings that shaped the country.

WHAT… WILL STUDENTS DO?*Study contemporary Spain through TV, documentaries, movies, music, the text: Españacontemporanea, internet sites and more *Demonstrate comprehension and express ideas and opinions regarding historical, social, and political information studied *Identify important people, periods and events in Spanish history and understand how they relate to life and social themes in current day Spain

  6. *Continue to develop their language skills by studying theme related vocabulary and conversational/colloquial expressions *Review grammatical structures through the revision process of their own writing.*Make oral presentations (formal and informal) on a variety of topics

  7. *Participate in classroom discussions and debates*Write essays and short (1-3) papers on a variety of topics*Conduct independent research and write a 3-5 page (typed) research based final project per semester

  8. HOW… WILL STUDENTS BE ASSESSED?Homework, quizzes, tests Projects, presentations, etc… 70% Oral Participation, daily preparation assignments, binder checks, attendance… 30%CHS’S ACADEMIC INTEGRITY POLICY WILL BE STRICTLY FOLLOWED!

  9. WHY… AM I TEACHING?*My own studies of Spanish language and culture changed my life.* I honestly, thoroughly enjoy working with my students – your children. It is never boring!*Sóloquieroregalar un trocito de mi verdad.
