  1. The Traditional Romanian Peasant Household

  2. Romanian household is the name of the administrative and spiritual space where a restricted or extended Romanian family is living and operating their spiritual and material activity . This way we can find two areas:    * Administrative Area     * Spiritual Area

  3. Administrative Area The administrative area is known as the household and includes the proper housing and the related annexes which surrounds the whole space. • In Romania an extended household includes the vegetable garden, orchard, arable land according to specific patterns of different areas. • Romanian traditional household is organized and developed differently depending on material opportunities and on the householder’s culture.

  4. Usually in our country the peasant try to improve their everyday household. His daily job includes growing animals, (usually all kinds of domestic animals), working on the arable land or in the vegetable garden which are the main sources for his daily food. The man’s main occupation is agriculture which includes almost all the jobs I have mentioned above. The women usually take care of the house and the kids. She cooks the traditional Romanian food which the family eats for their lunch and dinner.

  5. Every Romanian household has a special place where the animals are kept, which is called stable and the place where the food for the animals are kept is named barn. • The arable land is used usually for cereals or only for some vegetables which are used in a big amount, unlike the vegetable garden. • Also all kind of fruits can be found in the peasant's household as they have a special place where the trees grow, known as a orchard .

  6. The fact that their daily menu is based on what they are growing in the garden, gives them a healthier way of living.

  7. Every household is decorated with flowers, which improves the beauty of the place. It is women's occupation to take care of the esthetic part of the household.

  8. The house itself is built in a traditional way depending on the area of our country where it has been situated, but almost all of them are made of wood. Romanian rustic architecture, is the most complete one and the most creative expression of the old rural society.

  9. Spiritual Area • Talking about this area it is the part which includes only the family that lives in the household, and the relationships between the memebers of the family. They usually respect all the traditions which are related to our country , when we are talking about celebrations.

  10. In my opinion, I think the main advantage of living in countryside and having such a household is because of the healthier living . Aside from fresh air that leads to healthier lungs, living in the countryside gives you more access to organic farmer's market. Organic food are food items that are produced, processed and packaged without using chemicals which have more health benefits than conventional food.
