  2. Michigan Lead Safe Home Program • Goal: To make homes lead-safe for the youngest populations statewide • HUD and State (NEW!)-funded residential lead remediation program • Nearly 2,000 homes made lead-safe to date BEFORE AFTER

LSHP In the News • In June, Michigan Legislature Awarded MDCH $1.25 Million in General Funds for Lead Abatement • Based on dedicated work from Michigan Environmental Council, Michigan Alliance for Lead Safe Housing (MIALSH) and lead advocates, like you! • Funds will be utilized statewide • MIALSH needs lead advocates like you! State Gives Lead Safe Home Program $1 Million

  4. Who Benefits from the LSHP? Children and Families Property Owners Local Communities YOU, the Lead Contractor

  5. Who’s eligible for Help? Owner Occupied- • Low/Moderate Income • Child Under 6 Years Residing • Target Area or EBL Rental Properties- • Occupants must be Low/Moderate Income • Child Under 6 Years Residing or Vacant • Target Area or EBL

  6. Which Areas Do We Work?

  7. Where Do We Need Contractors? Everywhere! Target Areas: Bay, Calhoun, Hillsdale, Ingham, Jackson, Kalamazoo, Macomb, Oakland and City of Detroit. EBLS outside of these areas where there is no local program.

  8. What Kind of Work Does LSHP Provide? • All work is based on Lead Inspection/Risk Assessment Report • Combination Abatement & Interim Controls • Includes components such as: • Window and Door Replacement • Siding • Porch Work • Painting/Encapsulation • Other Lead Work • Healthy Homes Work

  9. We Need YOU! • Simple Application Process, available online at www.michigan.gov/leadsafe • Applications reviewed for approval within 2 weeks of submission. • Applications also available TODAY (back table)!

Pre-Qualifications • Must be Michigan Lead Abatement Contractor and RRP certified • Must have one full year of experience as Abatement Contractor OR Lead Professional • Must carry appropriate insurance (next slide) • Must be licensed Residential Builder (LARA) • Must not have had citation within last year 3 years or been terminated from local program.

  11. Insurance Requirements • General Liability Insurance: $1,000,000 • Worker’s Compensation • Lead/Pollution Liability Coverage: $1,000,000 (must have at least applied for policy at time of application, must have in place at project award)

  12. Working for LSHP • 2 week payment period • Work continues throughout year • $570,000 awarded in contracts in FY 2012. • Estimated $1,000,000 in contracts will be awarded in FY 2014 (HUD and State General Fund). • We NEED you!
