History- Status • Founded in 1998 as a non-profit organisation under the auspices of the General Secretariat for Research and Technology (GSRT) of the Greek Ministry of Development • Since March 2000, it is part of the newly founded Centre for Research and Technology – Hellas (also supervised by the GSRT)as one of its five constituent institutes. • During the first 2 years of its operation ITI attracted a total sum of funds in the range of € 5 Million from National and European R&D collaboration projects. • In 2002 a selected committee of experts in Information and Telecommunications Technology from European countries (other than Greece) evaluated the GSRT institutions, and graded ITI with 9.65/10 for excellence in research and on this basis awarded it with € 400,000. • 55 Researchers are currently employed at ITI

  4. R&D Projects • 11 European projects (IP, NoE, STREP – FP6) • 20 European projects (IST – FP5) • 44 National projects • 2 Concerted Actions • 13 Subcontracts • 9 European and 11 National projects already completed successfully.

  5. Role of CERTH in EGEE • Experience in GRID applications for virtual reality (visualization, virtual collaboration environments, etc.), bioinformatics (content-based search and classification of proteins), etc. • Contribute in the operation of GRNET distributed ROC in SA1 (Thessaloniki area). • Provide support to the area users. • Coordinate training activities in the Thessaloniki region focusing on general GRID training.
