  1. XIX IMEKO World Congress 2009 - Lisbon, Portugal TC5 - Meeting CIPM-CCM Working Group on Hardness Alessandro Germak - Chairman

  2. CIPM-CCM, Working Group on Hardness History: • in 1995 the 20th General Conference of Weight and Measure resolved to ensure the world-wide traceability by international comparison of metrology standards; • in 1997 at the 86th Session of the CIPM, an had-hoc working group on hardness was proposed (following the Italian proposal) to consider international comparisons of hardness standards; TC5 Meeting - XIX IMEKO World Congress - September 611, 2009, Lisbon

  3. CIPM-CCM, Working Group on Hardness History: • in June 1998 at NIST the proposal was approved in the fist meeting of the ad-hoc working group; • in 1999 the group became full working group of the Consultative Committee for Mass and Related Quantities (CCM). TC5 Meeting - XIX IMEKO World Congress - September 611, 2009, Lisbon 3

  4. CIPM-CCM, Working Group on Hardness Motivations: • conventional quantity based on testing methods defined by a combination of physical quantities expressed in SI units; • hardness standards are established and maintained in most of NMIs; • traceability to the standard of NMIs is demanded in industry and elsewhere. TC5 Meeting - XIX IMEKO World Congress - September 611, 2009, Lisbon 4

  5. CIPM-CCM, Working Group on Hardness Liansons: • IMEKO TC5 (scientific); • ISO and OIML (standardization). TC5 Meeting - XIX IMEKO World Congress - September 611, 2009, Lisbon 5

  6. CIPM-CCM, Working Group on Hardness Meetings: 1°) 1998 - NIST – Gaithersburg – USA 2°) 1999 - BIPM – Sèvres – France 3°) 2000 - Technical University (IMEKO) – Vienna – Austria 4°) 2001 - IMGC/INRIM (ISO) – Torino – Italy 5°) 2002 - INMETRO (ISO) – Xerém– Brazil 6°) 2004 - NIST (HARDMEKO) – Gaithersburg – USA 7°) 2005 - NPL (ISO) – Teddington – United Kingdom 8°) 2006 - Rio Hotel (IMEKO) – Rio de Janeiro – Brazil 9°) 2007 - AIST (HARDMEKO) – Tsukuba – Japan 10°) 2008 - MPA (ISO) – Hannover – Germany 11°) 2009 - AIST (ISO) – Tsukuba – Japan (Sept. 2009) TC5 Meeting - XIX IMEKO World Congress - September 611, 2009, Lisbon 6
