  2. The question… Why does Katy feel the heat?

  3. Hypothesis • Atrium air temperature will remain within the comfort range • Atrium median radiant temperature will stray out of the comfort range • Surface temperature of the floor that gets direct solar radiation will always be warmer than the surface area that does not.

  4. Methodology: Collecting quantitative and qualitative data related to different attributes of the atrium space with calibrated equipment in precise time intervals Air temperature Median air temperature Surface temperature Outside air temperature Occupant perceptions

  5. Data collection: Suspend 3 hobos in the center of space to determine average air temperature Suspend 1hobo in center of space to determine median radiant air temperature

  6. Data collection: Locate 1 hobo outside at the north side of building to determine outside air temperature

  7. Data collection: Utilize raytek to measure surface temperature of the floor within the atrium

  8. Data collection: Photograph quality of sunlight within atrium at 15 minutes intervals
