  2. (Materials) Finals Review • Finals process, 6 months start to substantially complete. • After conditional final acceptance the project staff has 60 calendar days to compile materials records for review. • Materials section has 30 calendar days to review. • Project engineer and materials section have 15 days to resolve any materials issues and to sign DT1310 form.

  3. (Materials) Finals Review • 30 / 60 / final materials review. • Materials Reporting System – 905’s • QMP summaries – 155’s Pantry Software

  4. (Materials) Finals Review • Regional Certification of Materials (DT1310). • 1) PL forwards final materials records to Jeff Michalski / John • Brophy for initialreview. Included is the DT1310 signed • and dated by the PL. _____________________ • 2) Upon completion of initial review the PL will correct exceptions • (if needed), sign the revised DT1310 and resubmit final materials • records to Jeff Michalski / John Brophy for final review. _____________________ • 3) Upon concurrence of the disposition -- Jeff Michalski / • John Brophy signs the DT1310. _____________________ • 4) PM gives final approval by signing DT1310. _____________________ • (This date tracked on Finals Tracking Report.)

  5. IA Reviews • Independent Assurance (IA) is unbiased testing and review of DOT, consultant, and contractor personnel who sample and test on our DOT projects. • IA goals is review 90% of the samplers and testers on our projects.

  6. IA Reviews • If a QV technician samples or tests on your project we would conduct an IA review. • We will check with PE and MTS through out the project to meet compliance.

  7. IA Reviews • Problem areas (past) • QV testing on small bridge projects. • Last minute QV base course samples.

  8. IA Reviews • QC testers (contractors) • Coordination between offices. • Help from project staff.

  9. Alkali-Silica Reactivity • Marathon County • Quarries containing – rhyolite, diorite, gniess, and quartzite. • Hanz, 3M, and Weisenberger Quarries.

  10. Alkali-Silica Reactivity • A process in which silica in the presence of moisture, is broken down by alkalis produces an expansive gel. • The expanding gel creates internal forces that causes the concrete to crack.

  11. Alkali-Silica Reactivity • Concrete coarse aggregate needs to meet ASTM C1260 (every 3 years). • Special Provision for 2014 – • Spec Book in 2015.

  12. Alkali-Silica Reactivity • If fails… • 1. Use 35% slag grade 120. • 2. Class “F” fly ash • 3. Mix specific test ASTM C1567 (every 3 years). • Cement / fly ash • Blend (percentages) and sources.

  13. Alkali-Silica Reactivity • Weisenberger Quarry has two approved C1567 mixes (County Materials – Marathon City and Rothschild plants).

  14. QMP Base Compaction • Criteria: Projects with • 30,000 tons or more of 1.25” BAD with sub grade improvement. • 40,000 SY of Mill / Pulverize and Relay. • Cost: $0.40 / ton (average).

  15. QMP Base Compaction • NCR projects: • 1430-00-74/76/84 STH 23, Green Lake County • 1430-08-86, 1431-02-72 & 1431-02-74. • 1174-10-72 / 73 USH 51, Oneida County

  16. QMP Base Compaction • 1500 ton / lots. • Minimum of 93% of the material target density. • Material includes: • Virgin base course • Reclaimed Asph. Pav’t • Crushed Concrete

  17. QMP Base Compaction • QV testing: • Proctor testing – provided by Regional labs. Project staff needs to take sample. • Density testing – responsibility of the project staff.

  18. New Beam Guard Acceptance • Annually beam guard manufacturer will be put on the pre-approved list. • “Buy America” certifications will be supplied to project by the beam guard vendor.

  19. New Beam Guard Acceptance • Certification of Compliance for each shipment. • Field verification for projects over 500 LF, optional under 500 LF.

  20. Dropping off samples • Security codes, Available on request. • Central Office samples – Stores Truck (2 week cycle). • QMP samples – 2 day turnaround.

  21. HMA Sampling • Dean Gritzmacher – Rhinelander office 715-493-6184. • Pat Shuda – Wisconsin Rapids office 715-421-8060. • Project level picking up samples (HTCP certification).
