  2. Beginning The core of the conflict is between Catholicism and Protestantism, beginning in the 1500s. There have been violent rebellions in Ireland since the early 1800s. Ireland gained its independence in 1926. There is frequent conflict in Northern Ireland.

  3. IRA The Irish Republican Army is a revolutionary group dating back to the 1920s. Provisional Irish Republican Army is considered a terrorist group. Involved in civil war in Northern Ireland during the 1980s. Staged bombs that killed 60 civilians.

  4. Contrasts with Malcolm X Despite the violence in Northern Ireland, most Americans remain ignorant. Violent rage by Irish is accepted. Current Muslim American Hearings and Rep. Peter King.
