  2. Not all work situations pay a salary or hourly wage. • There are other ways to make money such aspiecework, commission, salary plus commission, salary plus tips, and contract work.

  3. Example • Ziad works as a tree planter. He makes $2.25 for every tree that he plants. If he plants 75 trees, how much money will Ziad make?

  4. If Ziad plants 100 trees, he earns a 10% commission. How much will he make for planting 100 trees, and, what will his commission be for planting the trees?

  5. Samira works as a seamstress. She earns $1.50 for each pair of pants she hems and $2.60 for each shirt she alters. How much will she make if she hems 6 pairs of pants and alters 9 shirts?

  6. Antonio is a car dealer. If his company grossed $4,675 for detailing 16 cars, how much did they make per car?

  7. Fatima picked 18 quarts of strawberries and made $45.98. How much did she make per quart that she picked?

  8. Commission is a percentage of your sales that you make as part of your wage. If you sold $1200 and make 15% commission, how much would you make in total? • Multiply 1200 x 0.15. This will give you your commission. • Then, add the commission to your wage for your gross income.

  9. Omar works at a furniture store and earns 6.5% of his sales as commission. How much will his commission be if he sells $2539.61 in furniture? • Calculate the commission by multiplying the sales by the percent. This will give you the commission.

  10. Ms. Kim earns $492.00 plus a 6% commission on any sales she has. If she sells $1900 in supplies, what will her gross pay be?

  11. Selim works in a restaurant. If he serves a table that has a dinner bill of $543.23, he will earn 15% of this bill as a tip. What will Selim’s tip be on this dinner bill?

  12. You are trying to decide what to charge a customer to repair the steps on his house. The cost of the materials will be $746.00 and you will have to hire 2 workers and pay them $12.36/ hours for 8 hours of work each. You want to earn $450.00 for yourself. What should you charge the customer?

  13. 1st – calculate the amount you need to pay your workers. 2nd – Add your income. 3rd – Add your expenses. Once you do all these steps, you will have the amount you need to charge your customer.

  14. Starting at Page 89 work through all the questions until page 97.
