Truth or Error: You can turn from it! • There is only one truth – “the truth” • Many want to make truth relative – no absolute truth! • Argue for the existence of various shades of truth • With God, there is “THE TRUTH” and no other! • “Thy Word is TRUTH” (John 17:17) • “The word of THE TRUTH of the gospel” (Col. 1:5) • “You shall know THE TRUTH” (John 8:32; cf. 1 Tim. 2:4) • “THE TRUTH shall make you free” (John 8:32) • “Purified your souls in obeying THE TRUTH” (1 Pet. 1:22) • THE TRUTH reveals God’s ONE will for your life! 19 Brethren, if anyone among you wanders from the truth, and someone turns him back, 20 let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death and cover a multitude of sins.

Truth or Error: You can turn from it! • There is only one truth – “the truth” • Any way opposed to “the truth” is “the error” • Jesus taught there are only two ways – Matt. 7:13-14 • “…the spirit of truth and the spirit of error” – 1 Jn. 4:6 • “destructive ways” and “the way of truth” – 2 Pet. 2:2 • “forsaken the right way and gone astray” – 2 Pet. 2:15 • “The way of the wicked leads them astray” – Prov. 12:26 • “There is a way that seems right to a man…” • “…But its end is the way of death.” – Prov. 14:12 19 Brethren, if anyone among you wanders from the truth, and someone turns him back, 20 let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death and cover a multitude of sins.

Truth or Error: You can turn from it! • There is only one truth – “the truth” • Any way opposed to “the truth” is “the error” • One can “wander from the truth” • This is further proof that God’s truth is absolute! • One cannot wander from “the truth” to another truth! • Apostasy (to fall away/wander) is possible! – Gal. 5:4 • Cannot wander from a place you haven’t been! • “known the way…turn from [it]” – 2 Pet. 2:20-22 • “strayed concerning the truth” – 2 Tim. 2:17-18 19 Brethren, if anyone among you wanders from the truth, and someone turns him back, 20 let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death and cover a multitude of sins.

Truth or Error: You can turn from it! • There is only one truth – “the truth” • Any way opposed to “the truth” is “the error” • One can “wander from the truth” • Anyone can “wander from the truth” • Even the strong, “take heed lest he fall” – 1 Cor. 10:12 • “go astray…departing…come short…fall” – Heb. 3:7-4:11 • One numbered with Jesus betrayed Him – Ac. 1:15-18 • The entire church at Ephesus had “fallen” – Rev. 2:1-7 • Paul affirmed that even he could be lost – 1 Cor. 9:27 19 Brethren, if anyone among you wanders from the truth, and someone turns him back, 20 let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death and cover a multitude of sins.

Truth or Error: You can turn from it! • There is only one truth – “the truth” • Any way opposed to “the truth” is “the error” • One can “wander from the truth” • Anyone can “wander from the truth” • A sinner can “turn (be turned) from error” • Christians have tremendous responsibility to help turn • Be aware of needs and conditions – Phil. 2:4; Gal. 6:1-2 • Bring to senses & restore to right way with the Word • Teaching, encouraging, warning, showing true interest 19 Brethren, if anyone among you wanders from the truth, and someone turns him back, 20 let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death and cover a multitude of sins.

Truth or Error: You can turn from it! • There is only one truth – “the truth” • Any way opposed to “the truth” is “the error” • One can “wander from the truth” • Anyone can “wander from the truth” • A sinner can “turn (be turned) from error” • Turning a sinner “saves his soul from death” • Sp. death/separation=wages – Ro. 6:23; He. 10:26-27 • We must try! We must not delay! Eternity is at stake! 19 Brethren, if anyone among you wanders from the truth, and someone turns him back, 20 let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death and cover a multitude of sins.

  8. Truth or Error: You can turn from it! • There are TWO ACTIONS in this passage. There are only TWO possible roles for you. • The ANYONE who WANDERS • The SOMEONE who TURNS • If you are a wanderer, please turn back! • If you want to be SOMEONE in God’s eyes, • SEEK those who are astray! – Matt. 18:12 • With love, compassion & resolve, turn them back! 19 Brethren, if anyone among you wanders from the truth, and someone turns him back, 20 let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death and cover a multitude of sins.

  9. Obey the Truth… And Be Saved! • Believe the truth about Jesus – Eph. 1:13 • Repent from your sins – 2 Tim. 2:25 • Confess your faith in Jesus – Acts 8:37 • Be immersed into Christ – Mark 16:16 • Sins are forgiven – Acts 2:38 • Added to His church – Acts 2:47 • Registered in heaven – Hebrews 12:23 • Faithfully obey & live the truth – Rom. 2:5-9
